Norcatur Summary

Norcatur is a small city located in the northwest corner of Kansas, in Decatur County. It is situated on the banks of the Republican River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The city has a population of just over 500 people, and is known for its small-town charm and friendly atmosphere.

History

Norcatur was founded in 1887 by a group of settlers from Norway. The settlers named the town after their hometown of Norcatur, Norway. The town was originally a farming community, and the settlers grew wheat, corn, and other crops. The town also had a small sawmill and a blacksmith shop.
In the early 1900s, the town began to grow and prosper. The railroad came to Norcatur in 1906, and the town became a shipping point for grain and livestock. The town also had a bank, a hotel, a post office, and several stores.
In the 1920s, the town began to decline. The Great Depression hit the town hard, and many of the businesses closed. The railroad stopped running in the 1940s, and the town became a quiet, rural community.
