Highland Summary

Highland, Kansas is a small city located in Doniphan County, Kansas. It is situated on the Missouri River, just south of the Nebraska border. The city has a population of approximately 1,400 people and is part of the St. Joseph, Missouri metropolitan area.

History

Highland was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The city was named after the highlands of Scotland, and the settlers were of Scottish descent. The city was incorporated in 1857 and was the first city in Doniphan County.
Highland was an important stop on the Pony Express route, and the city was also a major stop on the Oregon Trail. During the Civil War, the city was a major supply center for Union troops.
