Hesston Summary

Hesston is a city located in Harvey County, Kansas, United States. The population was 3,724 at the 2010 census. It is located approximately 25 miles (40 km) north of Wichita.

History

Hesston was founded in 1887 by Mennonite settlers from Russia. The city was named after the Mennonite settlement of Hesston, Pennsylvania. The first post office in Hesston was established in 1887.
The city was incorporated in 1891. In the early 1900s, Hesston was a major shipping point for grain and livestock. The city was also home to a number of businesses, including a flour mill, a creamery, a lumberyard, and a brickyard.
