Belleville Summary

Belleville, Kansas is a small city located in Republic County, in the north-central part of the state. It is situated on the banks of the Republican River, and is the county seat of Republic County. The city has a population of approximately 2,500 people, and is the largest city in the county.

History

Belleville was founded in 1857 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The city was named after the French word for “beautiful town”. The city was incorporated in 1872, and the first post office was established in 1873.
