Park City Summary
City of Park City
Park City is a city located in Sedgwick County, Kansas, United States. It is a suburb of Wichita and is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 4,837.
History
Park City was founded in 1887 by the Santa Fe Railroad. The city was named after the nearby Park City Coal Mine, which was owned by the railroad. The city was incorporated in 1906.
Geography
Park City is located at 37°45'17" North, 97°20'17" West (37.754722, -97.338333). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.2 square miles (10.8 km2), all of it land.
Economy
Park City is home to several businesses, including a Walmart Supercenter, a Lowe's Home Improvement store, and a variety of restaurants and retail stores. The city is also home to several industrial and manufacturing companies, including Cessna Aircraft Company, which has a large manufacturing facility in the city.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 4,837 people, 1,845 households, and 1,323 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,154.2 people per square mile (446.7/km2). There were 1,945 housing units at an average density of 463.2 per square mile (178.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 87.2% White, 5.2% African American, 0.7% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 3.7% from other races, and 2.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.2% of the population.
There were 1,845 households, out of which 37.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 11.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.2% were non-families. 24.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.12.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 28.3% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $41,944, and the median income for a family was $48,958. Males had a median income of $35,938 versus $25,917 for females. The per capita income for the city was $19,845. About 5.2% of families and 6.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.2% of those under age 18 and 5.2% of those age 65 or over.
