Pine Hill Summary

Pine Hill is a small town located in Wilcox County, Alabama. It is situated in the southwestern part of the state, approximately 30 miles from the state capital of Montgomery. The town has a population of approximately 1,000 people and is part of the larger Wilcox County.

History

Pine Hill was founded in 1820 by a group of settlers from Georgia. The town was originally known as “Pine Hill Settlement” and was located on the banks of the Alabama River. The settlers were attracted to the area due to its abundance of timber and fertile soil. The town was officially incorporated in 1837 and was named after the abundance of pine trees in the area.
In the late 19th century, Pine Hill was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several cotton plantations and was a major producer of cotton and other agricultural products. The town also had a thriving lumber industry, with several sawmills located in the area.
In the early 20th century, Pine Hill began to experience a decline in its economy. The Great Depression and the boll weevil infestation of the 1930s caused many of the town’s businesses to close. The town’s population also began to decline as people moved away in search of better economic opportunities.
In the late 20th century, Pine Hill began to experience a resurgence in its economy. The town’s population began to grow again as people moved back to the area in search of employment opportunities. The town also began to attract new businesses, such as a furniture factory and a poultry processing plant.
