Whitesboro Summary

History

Whitesboro was founded in 1836 by a group of settlers from North Carolina. The town was named after William White, a prominent local landowner. The town was originally a farming community, and the main crops grown were cotton, corn, and tobacco. In the late 19th century, Whitesboro became a center for the timber industry, and the town’s population grew rapidly.
In the early 20th century, Whitesboro was a major center for the coal mining industry. The town was home to several coal mines, and the population grew to over 2,000 people. The coal industry declined in the mid-20th century, and the town’s population began to decline.

Geography

Whitesboro is located in the northwest corner of Alabama, in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The town is situated in the county of DeKalb, and is part of the Fort Payne-Gadsden Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town is located at the intersection of US Highway 11 and Alabama State Route 75.
The town is situated on the banks of the Little River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and forests. The town is located approximately 30 miles from the city of Gadsden, and is approximately 90 miles from the state capital of Montgomery.
