McDonald Chapel is an unincorporated community located in Jefferson County, Alabama. It is situated in the Birmingham-Hoover Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community is located along the banks of the Locust Fork of the Black Warrior River.

History

McDonald Chapel was founded in 1820 by William McDonald, a veteran of the War of 1812. The community was named after McDonald's family chapel, which was located near the present-day intersection of Highway 79 and Highway 75. The chapel was used as a place of worship for the local community until it was destroyed by a tornado in 1882.
The first post office in McDonald Chapel was established in 1845. The community was home to a cotton gin, a grist mill, and a sawmill. The first school in the area was established in 1848.
