History
Heflin was founded in 1867 and named after Confederate General Patrick Cleburne. The city was incorporated in 1872. The city was the site of a major battle during the Civil War, the Battle of Heflin.
Geography
Heflin is located at 33°41'25" North, 85°37'25" West (33.690278, -85.62361). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.2 square miles (13.4 km2), all land.
Economy
Heflin is home to several businesses, including a lumber mill, a furniture factory, and a manufacturing plant. The city also has a number of retail stores, restaurants, and other services.

As of the census of 2010, there were 3,480 people, 1,521 households, and 945 families residing in the city. The population density was 668.3 people per square mile (258.3/km2). There were 1,717 housing units at an average density of 332.7 per square mile (128.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 79.2% White, 17.7% Black or African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. 2.2% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 1,521 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.2% were married couples living together, 17.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% were non-families. 32.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.30 and the average family size was 2.90.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 86.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.2 males.
