Rachel Summary
Rachel, West Virginia is a small unincorporated community located in the northern part of the state in Jackson County. It is situated in the Appalachian Mountains and is surrounded by the Monongahela National Forest. The population of Rachel was estimated to be around 200 people in 2000.
History
Rachel was first settled in the late 1700s by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The town was named after Rachel, the daughter of one of the settlers. The town was officially incorporated in 1891.
In the early 1900s, Rachel was a thriving coal mining town. The coal industry was the main source of employment for the town’s residents. The town also had a post office, a general store, and a few other businesses.
