Peetz is a small town located in Logan County, Colorado, United States. The town is situated in the northeastern corner of the state, approximately 25 miles east of Sterling and 40 miles west of the Nebraska border. As of the 2010 census, the population of Peetz was 441.

Geography

Peetz is located at 40°59'25"N, 103°2'25"W (40.990278, -103.040278). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.4 square miles (1.0 km2), all of it land.

History

Peetz was founded in 1887 by a group of settlers from Nebraska. The town was named after John Peetz, a local rancher and businessman. The town was incorporated in 1908 and has remained a small, rural community ever since.

Economy

The economy of Peetz is largely based on agriculture and ranching. The town is home to several farms and ranches, as well as a few small businesses. The town also has a post office, a bank, and a few restaurants.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 441 people, 181 households, and 122 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,093.3 people per square mile (422.2/km2). There were 197 housing units at an average density of 486.3 per square mile (187.7/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.3% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.8% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.8% of the population.
There were 181 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.7% were married couples living together, 8.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.7% were non-families. 29.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 3.02.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 19.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.3 males.
