Meridian Summary

Meridian, Colorado is a small town located in Adams County, Colorado, United States. The town is situated on the eastern edge of the Denver metropolitan area, and is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population of Meridian was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Meridian is located at 39°50'17" North, 104°50'17" West (39.838, -104.838). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

History

Meridian was founded in 1887 by a group of settlers from the Midwest. The town was named after the nearby Meridian Reservoir, which was named after the meridian line that runs through the area. The town was originally a farming community, but in the early 1900s, it began to grow as a result of the nearby oil and gas industry.
In the 1950s, the town began to experience a population boom as people moved to the area to take advantage of the booming oil and gas industry. The population of Meridian peaked in the 1970s, but has since declined due to the decline of the oil and gas industry.

Economy

The economy of Meridian is largely based on the oil and gas industry. The town is home to several oil and gas companies, including Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, Noble Energy, and Encana Corporation. The town also has a number of small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and service providers.
