History

Harvey was founded in 1883 by the Northern Pacific Railroad. The city was named after railroad official, William H. Harvey. The city was incorporated in 1884.

Harvey is a small agricultural community. The main industries are farming, ranching, and oil production. The city is also home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a lumber yard, and a few restaurants.

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,743 people, 745 households, and 441 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,711.8 inhabitants per square mile (661.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.7% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.4% from other races, and 1.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.

The average household size was 2.25 and the average family size was 2.97.
