Gackle Summary

Gackle is a small city located in Logan County, North Dakota. It is situated in the southeastern part of the state, approximately 40 miles northwest of Jamestown. The city has a population of approximately 590 people, according to the 2010 census.

History

Gackle was founded in 1883 by German-Russian immigrants who had settled in the area. The city was named after a nearby creek, which was named after a German word meaning “to gaggle”. The city was incorporated in 1887 and was the first city in Logan County.
Gackle was a thriving agricultural community in the early 1900s. The city was home to several businesses, including a flour mill, a creamery, a lumberyard, and a hotel. The city also had a bank, a post office, and a newspaper.
In the 1920s, Gackle experienced a population boom due to the oil boom in the area. The city was home to several oil companies, and the population grew to over 1,000 people.

Geography

Gackle is located in the southeastern part of North Dakota, approximately 40 miles northwest of Jamestown. The city is situated in the Red River Valley, which is a flat, fertile plain. The city is surrounded by rolling hills and is located near the Sheyenne River.
