Cooperstown Summary

Cooperstown is a small city located in Griggs County, North Dakota. It is situated on the Sheyenne River, approximately 50 miles west of Grand Forks. The city was founded in 1882 and named after the first settler, William Cooper. The population of Cooperstown was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Cooperstown is located at 47°25'17" North, 98°00'45" West (47.4214, -98.0125). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.
The city is located in the Red River Valley, a flat, fertile region of the Great Plains. The Sheyenne River flows through the city, and is a popular spot for fishing and boating.

Economy

The economy of Cooperstown is largely based on agriculture. The city is home to several large grain elevators, and the surrounding area is used for growing wheat, corn, and other crops. The city is also home to several manufacturing companies, including a furniture factory and a plastics plant.
The city is also home to several small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and service providers. The city is also home to a hospital, a nursing home, and several medical clinics.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,093 people, 441 households, and 279 families residing in the city. The population density was 908.3 people per square mile (351.2/km2). There were 486 housing units at an average density of 405.8 per square mile (156.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.7% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 0.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
There were 441 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% were married couples living together, 8.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% were non-families. 32.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 17.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
