Argusville is a small city located in Cass County, North Dakota. It is situated on the banks of the Red River of the North, approximately 10 miles north of Fargo. The city was founded in 1881 and was named after the Argus, a mythical creature with 100 eyes. The population of Argusville was 1,093 at the 2010 census.
Geography
Argusville is located at 46°51'25" North, 96°45'45" West (46.857, -96.7625). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.
The city is located in the Red River Valley, a flat, fertile region of the Great Plains. The Red River of the North flows through the city, and the Sheyenne River is located just to the east. The city is located in the Central Time Zone.
Economy
The economy of Argusville is largely based on agriculture. The city is home to several large farms, as well as a number of smaller family-owned farms. The city is also home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.
Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 1,093 people, 441 households, and 294 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,541.4 people per square mile (595.3/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 667.1 per square mile (257.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.7% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 441 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% were married couples living together, 8.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.3% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.09.
