Winnett Summary
Winnett is a small town located in the northern part of Montana, in the county of Petroleum. It is situated in the foothills of the Little Rocky Mountains, and is surrounded by rolling hills and prairies. The town has a population of approximately 500 people, and is the county seat of Petroleum County.
History
Winnett was founded in 1909 by the Great Northern Railway. The town was named after the Winnett family, who were early settlers in the area. The town was originally a stop on the railway, and was used as a supply point for the surrounding ranches. In the early 1900s, the town began to grow, and soon became a center for the local ranching industry.
