Wausa Summary

Wausa is a small village located in the northeast corner of Nebraska, in Knox County. It is situated on the banks of the Missouri River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The village has a population of just over 500 people, and is a quiet, rural community.

History

Wausa was founded in 1883 by a group of settlers from Wisconsin. The settlers were looking for a place to settle and start a new life, and they chose the area around Wausa because of its fertile soil and abundant natural resources. The village was named after the Wausau Indians, who had lived in the area for centuries before the settlers arrived.
The first settlers built a log cabin and began farming the land. They also built a sawmill and a gristmill, which provided the village with much-needed jobs and income. As the village grew, more businesses were established, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a post office.
In the early 1900s, Wausa was a thriving community. The village had a school, a bank, a hotel, and several churches. The village also had a newspaper, the Wausa News, which was published from 1902 to 1915.
