Thayer Summary
Thayer is a small city located in the southeastern corner of Nebraska, in the United States. It is situated in Thayer County, and is the county seat. The city is located on the banks of the Little Blue River, and is part of the Lincoln metropolitan area. The population of Thayer was 1,845 at the 2010 census.
History
The area that is now Thayer was first settled in 1871 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was originally named “Thayer City” after the first settler, John Thayer. The town was officially incorporated in 1873.
In the late 19th century, Thayer was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several grain elevators, a flour mill, and a creamery. The town also had a number of businesses, including a hotel, a bank, and a newspaper.
In the early 20th century, Thayer experienced a period of growth and prosperity.
