Martinsburg Summary

Martinsburg, Nebraska is a small village located in the southeastern corner of Butler County, Nebraska. It is situated on the banks of the Platte River, approximately 20 miles south of Lincoln. The village was founded in 1871 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania, and was named after Martin Van Buren, the 8th President of the United States.

The first settlers to arrive in the area were a group of Pennsylvania Dutch, who arrived in 1871. They were led by a man named John Martin, who had purchased the land from the government.
