Greeley Center is a village in Greeley County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Greeley County.

Geography

Greeley Center is located at 41 45 7 North 98 25 7 West 41 751944 98 418611

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all of it land.

History

Greeley Center was founded in 1871 by settlers from Greeley, Colorado. The village was named after the Colorado town, which was named after Horace Greeley, the famous newspaper editor and politician.
Greeley Center was incorporated as a village in 1887. The village was the county seat of Greeley County from its founding until the county was dissolved in 1891.

Economy

Greeley Center is a small rural community with a population of 545 people. The village is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a restaurant, and a bank.
The village is also home to a number of agricultural businesses, including a feed mill, a grain elevator, and a dairy farm.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 545 people, 213 households, and 145 families residing in the village. The population density was 890.0 people per square mile (344.3/km2). There were 233 housing units at an average density of 382.5 per square mile (147.6/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.3% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.4% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
