Glenvil is a village in Clay County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 441 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hastings, Nebraska Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Glenvil was founded in 1887 by the Union Pacific Railroad. The village was named after the Glenvil post office, which was established in 1887. The post office was named after Glenvil, a small town in Scotland.

Geography

Glenvil is located at 40 45 17 North 98 14 17 West 40 754722 98 238333

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.8 km2), all of it land.

Economy

The economy of Glenvil is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several grain elevators, a feed mill, and a fertilizer plant. The village also has a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 441 people, 181 households, and 122 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,521.2 people per square mile (588.2/km2). There were 191 housing units at an average density of 654.2 per square mile (253.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.18% White, 0.23% African American, 0.45% Native American, 0.23% Asian, 0.23% from other races, and 0.68% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.68% of the population.
