Dix Summary

Dix is a village in Kearney County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 97 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kearney, Nebraska Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Dix was founded in 1887 by the Union Pacific Railroad. It was named after the railroad's president, Thomas A. Dix. The village was incorporated in 1891.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.2 square miles (0.5 km2), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 97 people, 43 households, and 28 families residing in the village. The population density was 517.2 people per square mile (198.7/km2). There were 48 housing units at an average density of 256.6 per square mile (98.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 100.00% White.
There were 43 households, out of which 23.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.1% were married couples living together, 4.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.9% were non-families. 32.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.26 and the average family size was 2.86.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 22.7% under the age of 18, 5.2% from 18 to 24, 24.7% from 25 to 44, 24.7% from 45 to 64, and 22.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.9 males.
