Chambers Summary

History
Chambers was founded in 1873 by the Union Pacific Railroad. It was named after the Chambers brothers, who were early settlers in the area. The village was incorporated in 1887.

Economy
The economy of Chambers is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several grain elevators, a feed mill, and a fertilizer plant. There are also several small businesses in the village, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.

As of the census of 2010, there were 545 people, 221 households, and 145 families residing in the village. The population density was 908.3 people per square mile (351.2/km2). There were 241 housing units at an average density of 400.0 per square mile (154.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.3% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.4% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
There were 221 households, out of which 28.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.0% were married couples living together, 7.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.2% were non-families. 30.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.46 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 19.2% who were 65 years of age or older.
