Bennet Summary

Bennet, Nebraska is a small village located in Lancaster County, Nebraska. It is situated about 20 miles south of Lincoln, the state capital. The village has a population of approximately 500 people and is part of the Lincoln Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Bennet was founded in 1871 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The village was named after the Bennet family, who were among the first settlers. The village was originally a farming community, but it soon became a popular stop for travelers on the Union Pacific Railroad. The railroad brought many new businesses to the village, including a hotel, a general store, and a post office.
In the early 1900s, Bennet began to experience a period of growth. The village was incorporated in 1908 and the first mayor was elected in 1909. The village continued to grow and by the 1950s, it had a population of over 1,000 people.

Bennet is located in the southeastern corner of Lancaster County, Nebraska. It is situated on the banks of the Platte River, which flows through the village. The village is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The climate in Bennet is generally mild, with hot summers and cold winters.
