Alma is a small city located in the state of Nebraska, in the United States of America. It is located in Harlan County, in the south-central part of the state. The city has a population of approximately 1,000 people, and is the county seat of Harlan County.

Geography

Alma is located in the south-central part of Nebraska, in Harlan County. It is situated at an elevation of 2,845 feet (867 m) above sea level. The city is located on the Republican River, which is a tributary of the Platte River. The city is surrounded by rolling hills and prairies, and is located in the Great Plains region of the United States.

Climate

Alma has a humid continental climate, with hot summers and cold winters. The average annual temperature is 52°F (11°C), and the average annual precipitation is 22 inches (56 cm). The city experiences a wide range of temperatures throughout the year, with temperatures ranging from -20°F (-29°C) in the winter to 100°F (38°C) in the summer.

History

Alma was founded in 1871, when the Union Pacific Railroad was built through the area. The city was named after the daughter of one of the railroad's engineers. The city was incorporated in 1887, and the first post office was established in 1888.
In the early 1900s, Alma was a thriving agricultural community, with a population of over 1,000 people. The city was home to several businesses, including a bank, a hotel, a newspaper, and a flour mill.
