Weston Summary

Weston is a village located in Marathon County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wausau, Wisconsin Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

The area that is now Weston was first settled in the late 1840s by German immigrants. The village was originally known as "Weston Station" because of its location on the Wisconsin Central Railroad. The village was officially incorporated in 1891.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Weston is home to several businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a bank, a gas station, and several restaurants. The village is also home to a number of manufacturing companies, including a paper mill, a plastics manufacturer, and a metal fabrication plant.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 2,845 people, 1,093 households, and 790 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,288.2 people per square mile (497.2/km2). There were 1,139 housing units at an average density of 517.2 per square mile (199.6/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.90% White, 0.14% African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.53% Asian, 0.21% from other races, and 1.08% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.53% of the population.
There were 1,093 households, out of which 35.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.2% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.7% were non-families. 24.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $45,938, and the median income for a family was $51,964. Males had a median income of $35,938 versus $25,000 for females. The per capita income for the village was $19,945. About 3.2% of families and 4.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.2% of those under age 18 and 5.2% of those age 65 or over.
