History

The area that is now Waupaca was first settled in 1849 by a group of settlers from New York. The settlers named the area Waupaca after the nearby Waupaca River. The city was officially incorporated in 1856.
In the late 19th century, Waupaca was a major lumbering center. The city was also home to several large sawmills and a paper mill. The city was also home to a large number of immigrants from Germany, Norway, and Sweden.
In the early 20th century, Waupaca was a major center for the dairy industry. The city was also home to several cheese factories.

Geography

Waupaca is located at 44°21′N 89°6′W (44.35, -89.10). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.2 square miles (10.9 km2), of which 4.1 square miles (10.6 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.3 km2) is water.
The city is located on the banks of the Waupaca River. The city is located in the Central Plain region of Wisconsin.

Waupaca’s economy is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. The city is home to several large manufacturing companies, including Waupaca Foundry, Inc., a manufacturer of iron castings. The city is also home to several large dairy farms.

The racial makeup of the city was 95.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.4% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.7% from other races, and 1.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.7% of the population.
There were 2,541 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples living together, 11.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.2% were non-families. 33.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.30 and the average family size was 2.93.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 23.7% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 26.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 19.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.7 males.
