Roberts Summary

History

The area that is now Roberts was first settled in 1854 by a group of Norwegian immigrants. The village was named after the first settler, John Roberts. The village was incorporated in 1891.

Geography

Roberts is located at 44°51'25"N 92°37'45"W (44.857139, -92.629092). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.

Economy

The economy of Roberts is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. The village is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant. The village also has a small industrial park.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,890 people, 745 households, and 517 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,567.5 people per square mile (604.7/km2). There were 790 housing units at an average density of 658.3 per square mile (253.9/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.2% White, 0.3% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.3% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 9.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.7% were non-families. 26.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 26.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older.
