History

The area that is now Plainfield was first settled in 1848 by a group of German immigrants. The village was officially incorporated in 1876.

The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 26.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older.
