Montreal Summary

Montreal is a city located in Wisconsin, United States. It is the county seat of Waukesha County and is located on the Fox River, about 25 miles west of Milwaukee. The city has a population of approximately 11,000 people and is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area.

History

The area that is now Montreal was first settled in 1836 by a group of settlers from Montreal, Canada. The settlers named the area after their hometown and it was incorporated as a village in 1846. The city was officially incorporated in 1892.
In the late 19th century, Montreal was a major center for the production of paper and paper products. The city was also home to several large manufacturing companies, including the Milwaukee Chair Company, the Montreal Chair Company, and the Montreal Paper Company.
