Lake Hallie Summary

History

Hallie was first settled in 1854 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was named after Hallie B. Smith, the daughter of one of the settlers. The village was incorporated in 1891.

As of the census of 2000, there were 2,717 people, 1,072 households, and 745 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,269.2 people per square mile (876.7/km2). There were 1,117 housing units at an average density of 922.2 per square mile (355.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.90% White, 0.07% African American, 0.07% Native American, 0.37% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.59% from other races, and 0.83% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.11% of the population.
There were 1,072 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.2% were married couples living together, 9.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.7% were non-families. 25.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 26.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.2 males.
