Emerald, Wisconsin is a small village located in the town of Emerald in Oconto County, Wisconsin. The village is situated on the banks of the Oconto River and is home to a population of approximately 500 people.

History

The area that is now Emerald was first settled in the late 1800s by a group of German immigrants. The village was originally known as “New Berlin” and was later renamed Emerald in 1891. The name was chosen to reflect the emerald green of the Oconto River.
The village was incorporated in 1895 and the first mayor was elected in 1896. The village grew slowly but steadily over the years and by the early 1900s, it had become a thriving community with a variety of businesses, including a sawmill, a grist mill, a cheese factory, and a general store.
In the 1920s, the village was connected to the rest of the state by the Wisconsin Central Railroad. This allowed for the transportation of goods and people to and from Emerald.
