Barron Summary

Barron, Wisconsin is a small city located in Barron County in the northwestern part of the state. It is the county seat and the largest city in the county. The city is situated on the banks of the Red Cedar River and is surrounded by rolling hills and forests. The population of Barron was 3,423 at the 2010 census.

History

Barron was founded in 1855 by settlers from New England. The city was named after Henry D. Barron, a prominent lumberman and early settler in the area. The city was incorporated in 1872 and was the first city in Barron County.
In the late 19th century, Barron was a major lumbering center. The city was home to several sawmills and lumber companies, and the lumber industry was the main source of employment for the city's residents. The lumber industry declined in the early 20th century, and Barron began to diversify its economy.
