Argonne Summary
Argonne, Wisconsin is a small village located in the northern part of the state, in the county of Oneida. It is situated on the Wisconsin River, and is surrounded by the Nicolet National Forest. History
Argonne was first settled in the late 1800s by a group of French-Canadian immigrants. The village was named after the Argonne Forest in France, where the immigrants had fought during World War I. The village was incorporated in 1921, and the first mayor was elected in 1922.
The village was originally a logging and lumber town, and the economy was largely based on the timber industry. In the 1950s, the village began to diversify its economy, and tourism became an important part of the local economy. The village is now home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.
Geography
Argonne is located in the northern part of Wisconsin, in the county of Oneida. It is situated on the Wisconsin River, and is surrounded by the Nicolet National Forest. The village is located in a rural area, and is surrounded by forests and lakes. The village is located approximately 30 miles from the city of Rhinelander, and is about an hour and a half drive from the city of Green Bay.
