Yorkville Summary

Yorkville is a small village located in Racine County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Racine Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Yorkville was founded in 1836 by settlers from New York. The village was named after York, New York, the hometown of many of the settlers. The first post office in Yorkville was established in 1837.

In 1845 the first schoolhouse was built in Yorkville The village was incorporated in 1846

The economy of Yorkville is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several farms, including dairy farms, vegetable farms, and fruit farms.
The village also has a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,093 people, 431 households, and 298 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,179.3 people per square mile (456.2/km2). There were 447 housing units at an average density of 483.2 per square mile (187.0/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.45% White, 0.18% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 0.73% from other races, and 1.37% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.37% of the population.
There were 431 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.7% were non-families. 25.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 26.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
