Wonewoc is a village located in Juneau County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wisconsin Rapids–Marshfield–Wisconsin Dells Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Wonewoc was founded in 1856 by settlers from New York and New England. The village was named after Chief Waunakee, a leader of the Ho-Chunk Nation. The first post office in the village was established in 1858.

As of the census of 2000, there were 845 people, 339 households, and 233 families residing in the village. The population density was 690.3 people per square mile (266.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.53% White, 0.12% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.12% Asian, 0.12% from other races, and 0.95% from two or more races. There were 339 households, out of which 33.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.3% were married couples living together, 8.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.3% were non-families. 27.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 3.03.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 26.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
