Withee Summary

Withee is a village located in Clark County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Eau Claire, Wisconsin Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

The area that is now Withee was first settled in the late 1840s by a group of settlers from New York. The village was originally known as "Hickory Grove" and was later renamed "Withee" after the first postmaster, William Withee. The village was officially incorporated in 1891.

Geography

Withee is located at 44°25'17" North, 90°37'45" West (44.4214, -90.6292). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

Economy

The economy of Withee is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several dairy farms, as well as a number of small businesses. The village also has a small manufacturing sector, with several small factories located in the area.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 545 people, 206 households, and 145 families residing in the village. The population density was 790.2 people per square mile (305.3/km2). There were 218 housing units at an average density of 316.3 per square mile (121.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.18% White, 0.18% African American, 0.37% Native American, 0.37% Asian, 0.37% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.73% of the population.
There were 206 households, out of which 33.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.7% were married couples living together, 6.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.1% were non-families. 25.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size was 3.20.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 28.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.3 males.
