History

Verona was first settled in 1851 by a group of settlers from New York. The city was named after Verona, Italy, and was incorporated in 1892. The city was originally a farming community, but in the late 19th century, it became a popular summer resort for wealthy Madisonians.
In the early 20th century, Verona began to grow rapidly, and by the 1950s, it had become a bedroom community for Madison. In the 1970s, the city began to experience rapid growth, and by the 2000s, it had become one of the fastest-growing cities in Wisconsin.

Geography

Verona is located at 43°02′N 89°30′W (43.037, -89.500). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.2 square miles (21.2 km2), of which 8.1 square miles (21.0 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km2) is water.

Economy

Verona is home to several major employers, including Epic Systems, American Family Insurance, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The city also has a vibrant small business community, with many locally owned restaurants, shops, and services.
