Twin Lakes Summary

Twin Lakes is a village located in Kenosha County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 4,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area.

History

Twin Lakes was first settled in 1836 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was originally known as "Twin Lakes Station" and was a stop on the Chicago and North Western Railway. The village was officially incorporated in 1892.

Geography

Twin Lakes is located at 42°27′17″N 88°17′17″W (42.454722, -88.288333). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Twin Lakes is home to several businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a bank, a pharmacy, and several restaurants. The village is also home to a number of manufacturing companies, including a plastics manufacturer, a metal fabricator, and a printing company.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 4,912 people, 1,945 households, and 1,323 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,223.2 people per square mile (859.2/km2). There were 2,072 housing units at an average density of 937.3 per square mile (362.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 94.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 2.3% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.2% of the population.
There were 1,945 households, out of which 32.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 11.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.7% were non-families. 27.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $50,938, and the median income for a family was $60,938. Males had a median income of $41,938 versus $30,938 for females. The per capita income for the village was $23,938.
