St Joseph Summary

St. Joseph is a village located in the Town of St. Joseph in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Manitowoc-Two Rivers Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

The area that is now St. Joseph was first settled in 1848 by a group of German immigrants. The village was officially incorporated in 1871. The village was named after St. Joseph, the patron saint of the Catholic Church.

Geography

St. Joseph is located at 44°3′17″N 87°51′17″W (44.054722, -87.854722). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.

Economy

St. Joseph is home to several businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a bank, a pharmacy, and several restaurants. The village is also home to a number of manufacturing companies, including a plastics manufacturer, a metal fabricator, and a machine shop.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,539.2 people per square mile (593.7/km2). There were 790 housing units at an average density of 658.3 per square mile (254.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.2% White, 0.3% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.3% were married couples living together, 9.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $45,000, and the median income for a family was $54,375. Males had a median income of $37,500 versus $25,000 for females. The per capita income for the village was $20,945.
