Seymour Summary

Seymour is a city located in Outagamie County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 3,451 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Appleton, Wisconsin Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Seymour was founded in 1854 by William Seymour, a settler from New York. The city was named after him. The first settlers were mostly of German and Irish descent. The city was incorporated in 1871.
In the late 19th century, Seymour was a major center for the lumber industry. The city was home to several sawmills and a large paper mill. The paper mill was the largest employer in the city until it closed in the early 1990s.

Seymour is located at 44°25′N 88°20′W (44.4133, -88.3337). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.17 square miles (10.78 km2), of which, 4.14 square miles (10.71 km2) is land and 0.03 square miles (0.07 km2) is water.

The city is home to several manufacturing companies, including a paper mill, a plastics manufacturer, and a metal fabrication plant.
