Reserve Summary

Reserve is a village located in Oconto County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Green Bay Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Reserve was founded in 1876 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Oconto. The settlers were looking for a place to settle that was closer to the railroad line, which was located in Oconto. The village was named after the nearby Oconto River, which was known as the “Reserve” by the local Native Americans.
The village was incorporated in 1883 and quickly grew to become a thriving community. The village was home to a variety of businesses, including a sawmill, a grist mill, a blacksmith shop, a general store, and a hotel. The village also had a post office, a school, and a church.
In the early 1900s, the village began to decline as the railroad line was moved further away. The village was eventually annexed by the city of Oconto in the 1950s.

Geography

Reserve is located at 44°51′N 88°14′W (44.851, -88.14). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.
