History
Reserve was founded in 1876 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Oconto. The settlers were looking for a place to settle that was closer to the railroad line, which was located in Oconto. The village was named after the nearby Oconto River, which was known as the “Reserve” by the local Native Americans.
The village was incorporated in 1883 and quickly grew to become a thriving community. The village was home to a variety of businesses, including a sawmill, a grist mill, a blacksmith shop, a general store, and a hotel. The village also had a post office, a school, and a church.

There were 745 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% were married couples living together, 10.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $37,500, and the median income for a family was $45,000. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $21,250 for females. The per capita income for the village was $17,945. About 6.2% of families and 8.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.2% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.
