North Fond du Lac Summary

North Fond du Lac is a village located in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 5,014 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fond du Lac Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

The area that is now North Fond du Lac was first settled in the 1840s by German immigrants. The village was incorporated in 1891. The village was named for its location north of the city of Fond du Lac.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all of it land.

Economy

The economy of North Fond du Lac is largely based on manufacturing. The village is home to several large manufacturing companies, including Mercury Marine, which produces outboard motors, and Giddings & Lewis, which produces machine tools.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 4,945 people, 2,039 households, and 1,323 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,239.2 people per square mile (865.7/km2). There were 2,097 housing units at an average density of 951.2 per square mile (367.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.45% White, 0.20% African American, 0.22% Native American, 0.61% Asian, 0.20% from other races, and 1.32% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.02% of the population.
There were 2,039 households, out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.2% were married couples living together, 9.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% were non-families. 31.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 3.04.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $41,944, and the median income for a family was $51,944. Males had a median income of $37,917 versus $25,944 for females. The per capita income for the village was $20,944.
