Kekoskee is a small village located in Dodge County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Beaver Dam Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Kekoskee was founded in 1845 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was named after a Native American chief who lived in the area. The first post office was established in 1848. The village was incorporated in 1887.

Geography

Kekoskee is located at 43°27′N 88°45′W (43.45, -88.75). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Kekoskee is a small rural community with a limited economy. The village is home to a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants. The village also has a few small manufacturing companies.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 545 people, 206 households, and 149 families residing in the village. The population density was 790.2 people per square mile (305.3/km2). There were 218 housing units at an average density of 316.3 per square mile (121.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.18% White, 0.37% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.37% Asian, 0.37% from other races, and 0.55% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.55% of the population.
There were 206 households, out of which 33.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.7% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.6% were non-families. 24.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.3 males.

The per capita income for the village was $17,845.
