Hartland Summary
Hartland, Wisconsin is a village located in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 8,380 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area.
History
Hartland was first settled in 1836 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was named after Hartland, New York, the hometown of one of the settlers. The first post office was established in 1845. The village was incorporated in 1892.
Geography
Hartland is located at 43°7'25" North, 88°20'45" West (43.123611, -88.345833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 5.2 square miles (13.4 km2), all of it land.
Economy
Hartland is home to several businesses, including a number of restaurants, retail stores, and professional services. The village is also home to a number of manufacturing companies, including a plastics manufacturer, a metal fabricator, and a machine shop.
Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 8,380 people, 3,093 households, and 2,323 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,611.5 people per square mile (621.7/km2). There were 3,231 housing units at an average density of 622.3 per square mile (239.9/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 95.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 1.7% Asian, 0.7% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.7% of the population.
There were 3,093 households, out of which 37.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.2% were married couples living together, 7.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.2% were non-families. 22.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 3.19.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 27.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
