Friesland Summary

Friesland is a small village located in the town of Holland in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. The village is situated on the banks of the Fond du Lac River, and is home to a population of just over 500 people.

History

Friesland was first settled in 1845 by a group of Dutch immigrants from the Netherlands. The village was named after the province of Friesland in the Netherlands, and the settlers brought with them their Dutch culture and traditions. The village was officially incorporated in 1876.
In the late 19th century, Friesland was a thriving agricultural community, with many of the settlers growing potatoes, corn, and other crops. The village also had a number of small businesses, including a cheese factory, a blacksmith shop, and a general store.
In the early 20th century, Friesland began to experience a decline in population as many of the settlers moved away to larger cities. The village was also affected by the Great Depression, and many of the businesses closed.

Geography

Friesland is located in the town of Holland in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. The village is situated on the banks of the Fond du Lac River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The village is located approximately 25 miles north of the city of Fond du Lac, and is about an hour’s drive from Milwaukee and Madison.
The village has a total area of 0.6 square miles, all of which is land. The village is located at an elevation of 845 feet above sea level.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, the village of Friesland had a population of 517 people. The racial makeup of the village was 97.3% White, 0.6% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
