De Pere Summary
De Pere, Wisconsin is a city located in Brown County, Wisconsin, United States. It is part of the Green Bay Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 23,800 at the 2010 census.
History
De Pere was first settled in 1835 by a group of French-Canadian fur traders. The city was named after the nearby rapids on the Fox River, which were named after the French explorer, Pierre Esprit Radisson. The city was incorporated in 1857.
In the late 19th century, De Pere was a major lumbering center. The city was home to several sawmills and a paper mill. The city also had a large number of tanneries and leather factories.
Geography
De Pere is located at 44°26′N 88°4′W (44.4333, -88.0667). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.7 square miles (22.5 km2), of which, 8.6 square miles (22.3 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km2) is water.
Economy
De Pere is home to a variety of businesses, including manufacturing, retail, and service industries. The city is home to several large employers, including Schneider National, Inc., a trucking and logistics company, and Schreiber Foods, a dairy products manufacturer.

As of the census of 2010, there were 23,800 people, 9,845 households, and 6,072 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,764.3 people per square mile (1,068.2/km2). There were 10,541 housing units at an average density of 1,219.3 per square mile (470.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 94.2% White, 1.2% African American, 0.4% Native American, 1.7% Asian, 0.7% from other races, and 1.8% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.3% of the population.
There were 9,845 households, out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.2% were married couples living together, 10.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% were non-families. 29.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 3.02.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
