Cedarburg Summary
Cedarburg is a city located in Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. It is located about 20 miles north of Milwaukee and is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 11,412.
History
Cedarburg was first settled in 1842 by German immigrants. The city was named after the cedar trees that grew in the area. The first post office was established in 1845 and the city was incorporated in 1846.
In the late 19th century, Cedarburg was a popular tourist destination due to its natural beauty and proximity to Milwaukee. The city was home to several resorts and hotels, as well as a popular amusement park.
Geography
Cedarburg is located at 43°17'N 88°7'W (43.28, -88.12). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.2 square miles (13.4 km2), of which 5.1 square miles (13.2 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km2) is water.
Economy
Cedarburg is home to a variety of businesses, including manufacturing, retail, and service industries. The city is also home to several wineries and breweries, as well as a popular farmers market.
Demographics
As of the 2010 census, there were 11,412 people, 4,717 households, and 3,092 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,232.2 people per square mile (863.3/km2). There were 4,945 housing units at an average density of 972.2 per square mile (375.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 95.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 1.7% Asian, 0.7% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.7% of the population.
There were 4,717 households, out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.2% were married couples living together, 8.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.7% were non-families. 27.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.94.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $58,958, and the median income for a family was $71,912. Males had a median income of $50,917 versus $35,921 for females. The per capita income for the city was $30,945. About 2.2% of families and 3.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.2% of those under age 18 and 4.3% of those age 65 or over.
