Aniwa Summary

Aniwa is a village located in Shawano County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Shawano Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Aniwa was first settled in 1848 by a group of German immigrants. The village was originally known as "Aniwa Station" because it was a stop on the Wisconsin Central Railroad. The name was changed to Aniwa in 1883. The village was incorporated in 1891.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km2), all of it land.

Economy

The economy of Aniwa is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several dairy farms, as well as a number of small businesses.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 545 people, 206 households, and 149 families residing in the village. The population density was 602.2 people per square mile (232.3/km2). There were 218 housing units at an average density of 242.3 per square mile (93.4/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.18% White, 0.37% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.37% Asian, and 0.92% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.37% of the population.
There were 206 households, out of which 33.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.2% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.6% were non-families. 24.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 28.2% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.3 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $41,250, and the median income for a family was $45,000. Males had a median income of $30,000 versus $21,250 for females.
